SSC Previous year Vocabulary 1-100 - Important word meanings from ssc

 Here I am providing SSC Previous year word meaning. I have collected them from the SSC previous year papers while attempting them, I have highlighted the words those meaning was asked i the exam and idioms also. 

1 Distinction :-clear, easily seen, heard or understood, clearly different

2. Backwoods :- remote uncleared forest land. "backwoods homesteads"

3 Paraphernalia :- large number of different objects that you need for a particular purpose 

4. Sordid :- unpleasant, not honest or moral.  very dirty and unpleasant

5 Skewed :- used about information not exact or not correct because it has been effected by something or facts are not known.
Skewed information is worse than no information at all
directed towards a specific place. group, etc. in a way that may not be accurate or fair

6. Callous :- not caring about the feelings or suffering of other people

7. Round the clock :- day and all night  
I have got a team working round the clock

8 Pyres :-  large pile of wood on which a dead body is placed and bumed as a part of a funeral ceremony. 

9 Furnaces :- large, very hot, enclosed fire that is used for melting metal, burning rubbish etc.

10 Distraught :- very worried and upset. 
Distraught parents looking for a runaway teenager. 

 11 Corpse :-  a dead body, especially of a person. 
  12 Shut off :- 1. stop flowing or operating. "when the flame goes out, the gas shuts off automatically. 
2.separate someone or something from something else. the family was shut off from the outside world"

13 Eluding :- 1. manage to avoid being caught.
 The escaped prisoner eluded the police for three days.

14 No wiggle room (idiom) :-  the freedom or opportunity to do. something, or to change your mind and do something differently if that is what is needed.

23 Pale into insignificance :-  diminish in importance, especially in comparison with something else.

That catastrophe pales into insignificance when compared with an influenza pandemic

24 For keeps :- Something that is for keeps in permanent and will not change.

31 Obligatory :- that you must do
